BGREEN in San Francisco

The Bloomberg in San Francisco has more eco friendly building than in New York. The building is not new one, the building is renovated because they concerned the environment. 40% of the building is made by recycle material.

The San Francisco office maximizes the use of natural light, reducing the need for energy-powered artificial lighting.

Water is not an endless resource. Yet despite hearing constantly about its scarcity in the world, water seems to be plentiful in our daily lives. Most of us hardly notice as water nurtures our landscapes, cleans the toilets, and makes the coffee. Bloomberg says that over the ear, they will execute a plan to reduce water consumption by 15%. They are also exploring a system that redirects rain water for use throughout their facilities. San Francisco and their future LEED certified buildings will each reduce water use by 40%.

LEED is Leadership in Energy and Environ mental Design, which is an internationally recognized certification system for green buildings with standards determine by the U.S. Green Building Council.

Bloomberg is eager to be a part of rolls for reducing global warming issue. Eco-friendly building is one of their aspects. In their reports, Bloomberg will reduce its carbon foot print 50% by 2013 from its 2007 baseline through energy efficiency, increased renewable resource use and aggressive waste reduction strategies. They have offices in New York, SanFrancisco, London and Tokyo and are going to work for green design and energy conservation at all brunches.

Once we step inside of the office, energy is everywhere but also the energy is designed as eco friendly. 

The office floors don't have any partition or wall so that the air circulation run well, which leads to save the energy. The shades are automatically controlled to open and close to use sun light.
The light and monitors of computer are automatically shut down if they are not used. Bloomberg says 2.2 million kWh a year saves by turning off unneeded lights and 7.6 million kWh a year saved by setting monitors to sleep mode.
Also, in the building there are broadcasting studio using low-power lighting, which saves about 500,000kWh, compared with standard bulbs. They purchase the energy from Green Power Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) in the U.S.
There are very efficient activities for the environment.

Every 3 blocks of desks has recycle dust boxes so that people can throw away easily in the eco friendly way.

Bloomberg encourages employees to commute with eco friendly way, such as bikes. An employee who commutes by bike receives extra money!

In the office, there are some snack places. They make the area as eco friendly as possible. For example, cups are made of potato. Bloomberg says 81% of beverages bulk dispensed and 72% food locally sourced globally.

Green Companies

Global warming, the increase in the average temparature of Earth's near-surface air and oceans since the mid 20th century and its prejected continuation, is one of the most important problems that we have faced and wrestl with now. The more the technology progresses, the more unique and effective ideas to decrease grobal warming we can see.

People consider global warming individually. Now a days companies should also asuume some roll in reducing our environmental impact. Especially big companies which have huge offices or buildings. Some companies, Green Companies, dedicate themselves to improving their effect to the environment. They devote to making their building operations eco-friendly.

Why do I want companies to be Green Companies? First, I believe companies should be a good citizen. As a rule, comapanies should practice helping community. Second, it can make good business sense. Practicing ecology wisely leads to saving money and creating good will. So, for companies, doing being "green" is also a tempting business strategy.

You will see some Green Companies' buildings later on this blog, such as Bloomberg (One Beacon Court - New York, San Francisco) and Bank of America (One Bryant Park - New York). These buildings would give you some ideas about eco-friendly living.
